After School Club
30 July – 4 August 2018
The “After School Club”, an international conference and workshop series, will take place at the HfG Offenbach for the fourth time. This year’s topic at the workshops and readings is women in art and design, bringing with it questions about gender diversity, fair pay, and the representation of female teachers at art and design colleges.
Over the five days, a total of eight artists, designers, and young creatives will provide insights into their work and give students from all over the world the opportunity to participate in their workshops. The project is supported by Eike König, a lecturer in graphic design and illustration at the HfG Offenbach, and his students.
The aim of the After School Club is to give students and creatives from different areas space to present their art and also take part in debates and discussions. On this year’s theme, Eike König has said: “Gender equality is a very important topic these days. We also believe that conferences are far too often dominated by men, and this is why we would like to set an international example for equality with our event.”
Among others, presenters include the Offshore Studio, founded by Isabel Seiffert and Christoph Miler, with headquarters in Zurich. The design studio focuses mainly on editorial design and typography and stands for a collaborative, transnational, and decentralised way of working. In their work Seiffert and Miller critically question design, media technology, and globalisation. Also on display are works by photographer Marlen Keller from London, exploring beauty norms, emotions, and colour. She has already worked as a photographer for well-known brands such as Adidas and Stella McCartney.
Students were able to apply in advance for participation in the workshops taking place from 30 July to 3 August 2018. For all other interested parties, an open conference will take place in the auditorium of the university on 4 August 2018. You can register for this on the website.
