European Artificial Intelligence Lab
Deadline for submissions: 17 February 2019
Until 17 February 2019 it is possible to apply for residencies within the context of the European Artificial Intelligence Lab. The project, initiated by Ars Electronica and twelve other cultural institutions, offers artists a residency for several weeks at the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz, the MUNTREF Centro de Arte y Ciencia as well as the Laboratorio de Neurociencia de la Universidad Torquato Di Tella in Buenos Aires.
Artists interested in neuroscience and artificial intelligence will have the opportunity to spend three to six weeks in Buenos Aires brainstorming new ideas, followed by a three- to six-week stay at the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz, where the ideas that matured in Argentina can be developed, elaborated and ultimately presented at the Ars Electronica Festival in September. A fee of 3,000 euros, production costs of 5,000 euros and accommodation plus travel costs for the residency will all be covered. A jury consisting of representatives of the participating partner organisations, scientific staff, and international experts will review the submissions to the worldwide competition.
The aim of the residencies is to analyse the complex of topics on artificial intelligence and to make it comprehensible to a broad public in order to provoke a reflected approach to this subject area. At the same time, they aim to explore and plumb the role of the artist in this regard. Over the next three years, numerous additional events will take place, including exhibitions, labs, workshops, conferences, lectures, performances, concerts, mentoring and residencies.
Another call to apply for a residency follows in the summer for a research stay of several weeks at the Edinburgh Futures Institute of the University of Edinburgh.
