18 – 22 October 2018
The Biennale Interieur recognises itself as a platform for young, innovative, and sustainable design combined with business and entrepreneurship. Over five days, creatives will have the opportunity to present original and progressive ideas and projects.
Much has changed since the first Biennale in 1968: in the wake of the 1968 movement –marked by protest and rebellion against norms – the Biennale was one of the first fairs to focus on creative and contemporary interior design combined with a cultural and commercial programme. Today, the focus is still on this combination, but what is new about this year’s event is that it is especially addressed at an audience of professional designers. Alongside lectures, exhibitions, presentations, and communicative exchanges, the Biennale also aims to support young talent. For example, a vacant hospital will be used as the presentation space for young designers alongside cultural partners. Further, a format called The Floor Is Yours will give new studios and educational institutions the opportunity to realise their creative and individual design ideas.
This year’s Biennale design is by Studio Verter and is influenced by universal designs of urban space. Visitors will also be able to see selected projects from the 2018 Interieur Award, including “Coil” by Bram Kerkhofs – a refined stainless steel cabinet frame that came first. A special highlight of the festival is the format Day and Night of Architecture, which will take place on 19 October 2018. The day will be one of lectures, including one by the German architect Arno Brandlhuber, followed by a spectacular party in the evening.
