Ciao Amico Mio
Etage Projects, Copenhagen
– 19 October 2018
In their solo exhibition “Ciao Amico Mio” held in Copenhagen, the Swiss design duo Kueng Caputo present some of their latest series.
“The Silo Furniture” was designed for Silo Silo in Zurich, which sees itself as a “place of participation and social space”. Adapted to the very special architecture of Silo Silo, which used to be a grain store, the duo designed simply shaped wooden furniture that contrasts with the cool atmosphere of the rooms. The second project, “The Homage Carpets”, is influenced in its approach to form and colour by woven works from Morocco. In “The Granulate Lamps” colourful granulate particles were melted, glued onto paper and then illuminated by neon tubes, triggering an impressive play of colours. As with some other works, the focus here is on combining an everyday object, the neon lamp, with a self-made piece of art, the decorated paper.
Other elements that keep appearing in their work are improvisation and experimentation with colour and form allowing the two designers to combine material adventures with complex handicraft techniques. Behind Kueng Caputo are Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo, who met back when they were studying in Zurich.
