East London Comics and Arts Festival
22 – 24 June 2018
The East London Comics and Arts Festival is a platform for comics, illustration, and narrative drawings taking place annually at two citizen-oriented venues in East London.
The comic is a timeless phenomenon that isn’t only relevant for a specific target group. Comic lovers can be found in all areas of artistic representation as well as among readers from a range of different backgrounds. This diversity allows for a great deal of artistic freedom, something the exhibition showcases by featuring over 100 artists, mostly from the UK. The comics, illustrations, and drawings will be exhibited in two locations in East London and presented in lectures, film screenings, and workshops.
Shortly before the start of the festival, the ELCAF Season will hold discussions, master classes, and exhibitions in London and other places in the UK to warm up on the themes, artists, and works. For these events, the festival collaborates with local institutions, schools, and organisations to present current comic art and illustration to the general public and hence also to interested readers and fans.
The ELCAF x We Transfer Award will also be presented on the last day of the festival. The winner will receive a grant of 3,500 British pounds to realise and publish their submitted work. The 2017 award went to the illustrator Akvil Magicdust for her comic “Tropical Wildchilds”, which will be presented during the 2018 festival.
The entrance fees are divided into two categories: The All Access ticket gives access to the exhibitions and the workshops on offer, while the Pass gives access to the exhibitions and all lectures. The Pass costs five British pounds each for one day and the All Access ticket ten British pounds. The affordable entrance fee to the exhibition and the workshops as well as the lectures underlines the festival’s aim to make it accessible to the general public as well as the younger generation.
