Eastern Design Conference
Tabačka Kulturfabrik, Košice
26 – 27 October 2018
The link between business and design is the core theme of this conference, which focuses on the idea of “the East”. For this purpose, it demarcates the notional borders of this region based on both geography and differences in business culture. The international speakers will also tackle the meeting of East and West.
What do we understand by “the East”? What sets it apart? What role do design and business play there, and how do they relate to one another? The Eastern Design Conference is dedicated to addressing these and other such questions. Central and Eastern Europe naturally form the focus of the conference, with other regions also included if they are considered to practise “our local eastern ways of doing business in a post-communist business environment”. The speakers come mainly from countries that are defined according to this, including for example Studio Marvil from the Czech Republic, Ali Ali from Egypt, and Jan Franciszek Cieślak from Poland. Guests from “the West” are also expected to attend. The venue for the conference will be a former tobacco factory in the Slovakian city of Košice which is now a hub of art, creativity, and co-operation.
