In “Go West!” the Designforum Vienna is exhibiting works by 16 illustrators from the USA for the first time in Austria. The aim is to showcase the diversity of styles and creativity offered in the world of US American illustration.
American cities such as Los Angeles and New York are known for their “lucrative and thriving” illustration markets. The “Go West!” exhibition gives 16 artists, including both young and ambitious talents as well as established illustrators, the space to present their individual view of the world in at least two works. Amongst the artists are the New Yorker illustrator and painter Chris Buzelli, who tackles themes such as surrealism and dreams in his illustrations and oil paintings, and the curator and comic illustrator Agata Nowicka, originally from Poland, whose works have already been printed in renowned magazines such as the women’s magazine Elle and the cultural magazine The New Yorker. The exhibition has been curated by Peter Diamond, an illustrator originally from the US, who now lives in Austria. The aim is to show the public the liveliness and individualism that exists in the world of illustration.
The Designforum in Vienna sees itself as a “centre of skills, service, and exchange” and offers itself as a space for open discussion about creative output and design. This exhibition is intended to reflect the varied visual culture of the US American illustration scene by means of its targeted selection of a manageable number of artists, each of whom works with different materials and has an individual way of thinking and technique.
