In between Lies Tomorrow
Weissraum Designforum Tirol, Innsbruck
8 May 2018
The Weissraum Designforum Tirol offers a platform for designers, interested parties, and business to discuss social problems and possible solutions in society. In her lecture “Interact. Im Zwischen liegt das Morgen” [Interact. In between Lies Tomorrow], Anette Lenz introduces her projects and ambitions and sets out her anti-commercial credo which is “to talk more about being than about possessing”.
The organisers describe Lenz’ motivation as “committed graphic design, which claims to affect society”. Her goal is to give the ubiquitous presence of the commercial in public space a new status through posters. To her, the poster represents “respect for civil society” and if it is of high quality design, it can make a cultural statement. Anette Lenz developed her cultural-political stance as a member of the former Paris artist collective Grapus. German and French graphic design have influenced her personal style described by the organisers as “often expressive and also delicate, chaos and order combine to make the graphics appear spatial, like a stage or sculpture”. In Paris Lenz worked on projects and campaigns with the French National Orchestra for Radio France, as well as numerous theatres and the city of Paris, among other things.
Weissraum promotes awareness of the importance of applied design in our society through lectures, exhibitions, training opportunities, discussions, publications, and design research.
