Interdisciplinary Conference on the Aesthetics of Scaling
Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen
8 – 9 June 2017
The conference is organised by Steffen Siegel, professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts, in collaboration with Carlos Spoerhase from the Bielefeld University, and Nikolaus Wegmann from Princeton University. The focus of the conference is the area between spatial extremes – minimum and maximum – and the range of possibilities or models for design and analysis that can be derived from them. The various speakers explore the potential of compression and amplification by means of text, image, object, sound, and presentations. Among the speakers are Jan von Brevern from the Freie Universität in Berlin with his lecture “Art at the Airport”, Heinrich Geiselberger from publishing house Suhrkamp on “SubjektiveMosaike” [Subjective Mosaics], Nicola Glaubitz from the Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main on the topic “Affordanzen des Langromans” [Affordances of the Long Novel] as well as Jens-Christian Rabe from the Süddeutsche Zeitung with his lecture “Schnipseljagd” [Paperchase].
Admission to the conference is free and no prior registration is required.
