It’s a book
15 March 2014
Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig
On 15 March 2014, on the occasion of the Leipzig Book Fair, the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig is opening its doors to those interested in the independent publishing scene. This is where this year’s “It’s a book” fair for independent publishers is taking place. For the first time, it is being organised by the students in the Faculty of Graphic Design and not, as originally, by Spector Books, which is also based in Leipzig. And for Leipzigers, there is plenty to celebrate this year: the Academy will be 250 years old, it is the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Walter Tiemann Prize, and BUGRA, the international exhibition for the book trade and graphic art, is celebrating its centenary. BUGRA was initiated by Max Seliger, the director of the Academy 100 years ago.
In addition, there will be an interesting symposium with guest speakers from Switzerland, the featured country of this year’s Leipzig Book Fair. The programme will start at 10 a.m. and includes presentations by François Rappo (known for his development of the Theinhardt typeface) and Günter Karl Bose (see N° 251 “The Future of the E-Book”). All presentations will be held in German. The trio of jubilees is sure to contribute towards the success of a memorable occasion. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and entry is free of charge.
