Das ist Ästhetik! X. DGÄ Conference
14 – 17 February 2018
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetik (DGÄ) is organising its tenth conference “Das ist Ästhetik [This is Aesthetics]!” to be held at HfG Offenbach from 14 to 17 February 2018. This event marks the association’s twenty-fifth anniversary, allowing the organisers to take the opportunity to look at the lively present in aesthetics.
Originally seen as a sub-discipline of philosophy, aesthetics today moves freely across disciplinary boundaries. Since the DGÄ was founded in 1993, the academic landscape of subjects has changed considerably. Aesthetics is now a relevant part of teaching in art schools as well as in art, design, cultural and media studies and interdisciplinary projects. According to Juliane Rebentisch, the president of the DGÄ and a professor of philosophy and aesthetics at the HfG Offenbach, this interdisciplinary view of aesthetics brings a new impetus to the discourse.
The four days of the conference are intended to contribute to a re-mapping of aesthetics that reflects the discipline’s current status. The speakers’ contributions will demonstrate what aesthetics is, what it can be or should be today. Particular attention will be paid to the question of how aesthetics is seen in other disciplines.
The content for the preparation and concept of the conference is based on a workshop given by the DGÄ’s board and advisory committee, entitled “Denken und Disziplin” [Thinking and Discipline]. The programme has been developed from the contributions and involvement provided by members.
Participation in the conference is free of charge. Only registering online is required. It is not necessary to be a member of the DGÄ.
