Paris Design Week
6 – 15 September 2018
Paris Design Week, which takes place annually, coincides with Maison et Objet, the trade fair for interior design and decor, and shows ideas, products, and visions by national and international creative minds, and young and established designers.
Studios, museums, showrooms, shops, and restaurants throughout Paris open up their premises to become showrooms for brands, their prototypes and new products in furnishing, furniture, and lifestyle, and to create space to interact with the public. Visitors can expect a broad programme including a diverse range of products and materials – natural, synthetic, technological, abstract, and edible – at the design week. The exhibitors include the Japanese artist collective Team Lab, displaying an interactive and immersive installations dissolving the boundaries between art, science, and technology; the Atelier Tarkett, where it will be showing variations of the colour blue, or more precisely the colour RAL 5013; and brands such as We Work which presents new office furniture, developed exclusively for the concept of co-working.
Also, younger talents in the design sector will be promoted: a total of 21 up-and-coming national and international designers will be presented with their work. The “Le Off” exhibition taking place at Ground Control this year is also intended to be a springboard for young designers, and is a central focus of the programme with interesting talks and discussions by influential characters from the world of design. Taking the theme of “Virtuous”, Maison et Objet attaches great importance to high-quality and fair production, supporting new production methods and innovative sales practices. The Rado Star Prize France, offering financial and media support to up-and-coming talent, is also dedicated to sustainability.
