Radiant. Antje Hanebeck
Museum of Islamic Art, Doha
14 January – 29 March 2014
The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, Qatar, in collaboration with East Wing, is presenting the exhibition “Radiant”, a new international platform for contemporary photography. To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the museum the artist Antje Hanebeck is showing wonderful heliogravures, – a 19th century technique for reproducing photographs on copperplates.
The artist, who has a master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and whose projects have already been displayed in Europe and Japan, wanted to reinterpret the exhibitions halls of the museum through the interplay of light and shade. The museum’s photographic portfolio project is also a homage to the architect I. M. Pei, whose striking design combines 21st century modernity with traditional Islamic architecture.
