Salone del Mobile.
17 – 22 April 2018
“The 57th edition of the Salone del Mobile promises to be a new starting point” according to the fair’s website. This year, the Salone del Mobile is emphasising its priorities in the form of a declaration honoring the city of Milan’s design potential.
The furniture fair in Milan is gathering together products and designers from around the world, all of which are concerned with aspects of tradition, the future, craft, technology, innovation, and a new style of luxury. The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is exhibiting furniture, lighting, and accessories over 200,000 square metres in three style categories: Design, Xlux and Classic: Tradition in the Future. Running in parallel with the fair in 2018 is the biennial Euro Cucina exhibition and the International Bathroom Exhibition.
In halls 13 to 15 where the Salone Satellite is held, 650 young designers and design schools from around the world will be exhibiting products and objects focusing on this year’s theme of “Africa/Latin America: Rising Design – Design Emergente”. These countries are models known for their particular richness in creativity. The projects intend to reflect the general view on and the understanding of design, and to steer it into a new direction for the future. The projects are based on folkloric original designs and optimise the use of crafts and new technologies. Experimental works will be showcased that convey memories, discoveries, slow design, nature and materials, creative recycling and digital effects, amongst other things, and call for a debate about the future of design.
