MAD Brussels Fashion and Design Platform, Brüssel
– 30 September 2018
Brussels-based MAD will be showcasing photographer Pierre Debusschere and some of his most personal projects so far as part of the Summer of Photography biennial.
On display will be around 100 new photographs as well as the second film by Debusschere. In his works, the Belgian fashion photographer and director generally focuses on topics such as beauty and fashion, largely as portraits, positioning his models in an unusual and often bizarre manner. However, it is the models alone who decide what they are ready to show the camera. The essence of his photography is making emotions tangible, by using (digital) techniques, and skilfully making use of colour and light in collages or close-ups. Debusschere has previously designed commercials for Raf Simons and Lane Crawford, directed music videos by Beyoncé and works with V Magazine.
At this year’s Summer of Photography in Brussels, the photographer presents his most personal projects to date. The exhibited works embody intimacy, familiarity, protection, and exposure and their aim is to trigger these emotions in the viewer as well. In addition to photography, Debusschere has a passion for music and painting, which he sometimes combines with his photographs. Based on the exhibition, publisher Triangle Books will be publishing “Uncovered” as a book. Selected works can be purchased on site. After its debut at MAD, the exhibition will also be on view in other international art institutions.
