Van Eyck Open Studios
Van Eyck Academy, Maastricht
8 – 10 March 2018
The artistic results of the Van Eyck Academy Year 2017/2018 are open to visitors for viewing over three days of Open Studios. The 45 participants include freelance artists, designers, architects, curators and authors who have developed their own or collaborative projects within the Academy's infrastructure over the past six to twelve months.
Participating designers have the workshops of the Academy at their disposal during their stay in Maastricht. Here they can try out different materials and media, for example wood, metal, printing, photography, audio and video. The Thérèse Cornips Lab is the Academy’s “mental workshop” – its library – where reading groups meet on a regular basis. The Wilhelmina Minis-van de Geijn Lab offers participants the opportunity to conduct outdoor research on landscape, ecology and sustainability.
All labs, studios, showrooms and gardens in and around the Academy are open to visitors during the Open Studios. The installations, videos, performances, paintings and readings were curated and staged by participants Bernke Klein Zandvoort and Rodrigo Red Sandoval. The exhibition gives a taste of the institution’s general approach to art, design and the creative potential of the designers who participate in the Van Eyck Academy.
