Vienna Design Week 2018
28 September – 7 Oktober 2018
With numerous venues and a varied programme designed to showcase design in all its facets, Vienna Design Week invites once again for the twelfth edition of the Design Week in the Austrian capital.
Vienna Design Week transforms the city into a showroom of design. Creative work is undertaken and exhibited at various venues throughout the city, demonstrating to the visitor the influence of design on not only the appearance of products, but also on culture, everyday life, and the world of products. The diversity of design as a discipline is also reflected in the different topics of the lectures and panels on offer. From urban design, illustration, to social design, everything has its place. Some formats, such as the “Passionswege”, have been adopted from recent years. For this format, six selected designers collaborate experimentally and playfully with local companies and the results are then displayed. This year includes, among others, the “sweet factory” Zuckerlwerkstatt and glassware specialist Lobmeyr. The week also includes a particular focus on the seventh district – Vienna’s well-known creative district. The programme includes numerous workshops, lectures, and exhibitions, focusing on virtual and augmented reality and urban food production. This year’s guest country, Poland, has a lively and active design scene, which the exhibition “The ABCs of Polish Design” hopes to capture in its diverse display. In collaboration with the Polish Institute in Vienna, the Polnisches Institut Wien, “Symbol to Logo” throws the spotlight on the little known history of logo design in communist Poland and the social changes associated with this era.
