Who cares?

ABK, Stuttgart

4–5 February 2014

As early as the 1960s, the Austro-American designer and design philosopher, Victor Papanek (1923–1998) called for a social design that “met people’s true needs”. He pleaded for sustainable and participatory practice in design. Fifty years later, this desire is more relevant than ever before. This year’s Weißenhof symposium is tackling the subject.

What is the social responsibility of the design and architecture disciplines? What would a creative and consciously responsible attitude look like that would achieve a change in the world through design and architecture? The two-day symposium is part of the programme of events for the exhibition “Soziale Projekte – Fragen / Antworten” (Social projects – questions / answers) at Weißenhof. The organisers are inviting international designers to lectures and discussions at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenende Künste, Stuttgart.
