In the person of Sagmeister, the Raymond Loewy Foundation is honoring one today’s most influential communications designers. He achieved cult status not least of all for his covers for The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed and Talking Heads. Outlining its decision the foundation’s jury stated “his design work is highly creative, innovative, and courageous. He combines philosophy, politics and socially relevant themes avant-garde design, is democratic and someone everyone can comprehend.

The Lucky Strike Designer Award has been awarded annually since 1991 to outstanding and internationally successful designers for their life’s work or a particular period of creativity. It is one of the most lucrative international prizes awarded to designers. Previous winners include Philippe Starck, Michael Ballhaus, Donna Karan, Peter Lindbergh and Karl Lagerfeld.
