This year’s winner of the Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award is René Alt. The product design graduate from the University of Coburg, Germany, impressed the jury with Lukko, a combination of a bicycle light, dynamo and lock. The modules for the front and back wheel can be used on bikes with the very common cantilever brake bosses and can therefore easily be exchanged.

The prize, which is worth € 12,000, was bestowed in Hamburg last weekend. The graphic designer and winner of the Lucky Strike Designer Award 2009, Stefan Sagmeister, was invited as a guest speaker. He gave a speech on the topic of “error”.

Werner Aisslinger, Angela Schönberger (Director of Kunstgewerbemuseum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) and Kurt Weidemann were among the members of the jury for this award. In total, the jury assessed 211 works. Aside from the prize winner, the Raymond Loewy Foundation also awarded “special mention” to 28 young designers. From July 5 to July 24, all prize-winning works will be exhibited at Levantehaus Hamburg, at Mönckebergstrasse 7.
