The Californian design studio Fuseproject led by Yves Béhar presented a user-friendly alternative for charging electric vehicles last week. The GE WattStation™ was designed for the “ecomagination initiative” of GE, an international infrastructure, financial and media company based in the US, which seeks to offer solutions for important global needs. Accessible, quick and easy-to-use, the charging station, to be installed at central parking bays, is intended to simplify the charging process and spark even more enthusiasm among motorists for environmentally-friendly electric vehicles.
Its low profile, rounded design and appealing ease-of-use are intended to make the WattStation blend into the urban landscape. Fitted with a self-retractable charging cable, which is stored in a solid metal casing after use, the charging station offers environmentally-conscious motorists a convenient and clean solution. At four to eight hours, the charging time is very short compared to conventional charging stations, which require double if not three times that. Moreover, the GE WattStation makes use of the up-and-coming smart grid technology, which enables the electricity required to be managed through the use of intelligent supply networks. This makes it possible to control the effects that charging processes have on local and regional electricity grids.
