The Design Department at HFBK Hamburg is issuing invitations to a symposium, "Critical Design" on April 30. International artists and designers will be presenting works that radically question the habits of our everyday lives as well as tackling the subjects of political criticism, subversion and utopian social design. They will be asking about designing for life beyond our product and consumerism -oriented society.
After an introduction to the subject by Friedrich von Borries, Professor of Design Theory and Curatorial Practice at HFBK Hamburg, Stephan Rammler of HBK Braunschweig, the Brunswick Academy of Fine Arts, and political scientist Regula Stämpfli will be lecturing about theoretical approaches to design and politics.
After this, designers and artists will be talking about "critical Design" in their practice. Speakers will be Fiona Raby (Dunne & Raby, RCA London), Joep van Lieshout (AVL Rotterdam), Daniel van der Velden (Metahaven Rotterdam), Bjørnstjerne Christiansen (Superflex Kopenhagen), and Rianne Makkink (Studio Makkink & Bey Rotterdam).
The event starts at 11 a.m. There will be drinks to round out the day at 8 p.m.
