Cover Story: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
We take you to a world full of visual atrocities and formal torturing techniques. In our lead article, art historian Annette Tietenberg explores the boundaries between kitsch, art, and downright ugliness. We have also compiled and analyzed a whole host of tasteless samples from the world of product and graphic design, among other things Volker Albus does not hold back with his aversion towards Karim Rashid. However, at times the ugly can be so terribly beautiful that one simply cannot stop wanting more. By way of example, Claus Richter makes confession of his passion for brightly colored plastic toys.

Unfortunately, we made a mistake in our story on the new possibilities for typography on the Web. On page 78 we show a screenshot of edenspiekermann.com, which according to the caption is supposed to show the site with Espi Sans&Slab. In fact, it shows edenspiekermann.com with the default font Lucida. Thus we ourselves fell for the different representation of Web sites due to the systems used: The “wrong” screenshot was made on a Mac with Firefox 3.0.1. On the left, you may see the “correct” picture (this one captured on a PC with Firefox 3.6.8.)We apologize to our readers and to edenspiekermann!
