Our focal theme “Made in Everywhere” explores how globalization is changing the field of design, especially in Germany. Once a mark of quality, the designation “Made in Germany” has lost some of its appeal under the pressure of global price wars. Increasingly, good, high-quality products come from abroad. But need such dramatic changes automatically result in fewer contracts for designers, or might they not even profit from them? We ask renowned designers to relate their experience of production in Asia. And we show how independent designers and larger design studios seize globalization as an opportunity.
