Design Prize Rheinland-Pfalz 2017. Product Design
It isn’t merely users who benefit from successful design but also the businesses or companies behind it. With this in mind, since 2007, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the German federal state Rheinland-Pfalz has been supporting the regional economy with its design prize. This year, product submissions for the award can be made until 17 July (the deadline has been exceeded) and the competition is open to individuals or companies located in Rheinland-Pfalz that commissioned or created the product entries.
The prize is awarded every year for either product or communication design, in rotation. This year, the prize will be awarded to products that have been commercially available since 2015, 2016 or 2017 at the latest. The term “product” however, does not only apply to a marketable product series, but also encompasses conceptual design solutions, services and systems solutions as well as scientific design concepts or studies.
This year’s jury includes representatives from educational institutions and state agencies as well as designers. A participation fee of 50 euros is levied for each submission, but “Design Talents” are exempt – so students who completed their studies after 1 January 2015 are also invited to participate in the competition.
The winning products will be presented to the public in an exhibition and in print, thereby “raising awareness of exemplary design”.
