This year’s anniversary of the Designerinnen Forum [Women Designers’ Forum] from 6 to 8 October 2017 coincides with its 25th anniversary. The title of the conference is “Gutes Morgen– Führt Digitalisierung zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit?“ [A Good Tomorrow– Can digitisation lead to more sustainability]. The Designerinnen Forum is an association founded in 1992, with the aim of improving networking for women designers and supporting them. Equality issues, skills development, knowledge exchange and the quality of design have all been important issues over the last 25 years. The network, which is based in Darmstadt, is this year organising a conference with lectures on current topics relating to digitisation. In particular, the focus is on the connection between digitisation and sustainability, what it means for a designer to work with digital media and “cooperate” with algorithms.

One of the speakers is Dorothea Hess, founder of Hessnatur and a studio with a focus on lifecycle design. In her lecture she will focus on Ecodesign and the cycle of a product. Eva Kristin Stein will continue the theme by outlining possible future scenarios.

In a workshop by Stephan Bohle, participants can get actively involved and try to find concrete solutions to problems that arise in the areas of ecology, economics and social issues. At Kai Rosenstein’s debates participants are also invited to share their own ideas on the relationship between design and sustainability. A guided tour through the exhibition of the results from the competition for the Bundespreis Ecodesign [Federal German Prize for Ecodesign] will also give participants insights into visionary and innovative projects. The day will be rounded off by a further tour through the artists’ colony Mathildenhöhe with the art historian Renate Charlotte Hoffmann and by the anniversary celebrations of the Designerinnen Forum.
