London Design Festival 2017
16 – 24 September 2017
On 16 September 2017, the fifteenth edition of the London Design Festival will start, offering new ideas in design, architecture and art on its international platform throughout the week.
Visitors to the Villa Walala can build their own castle with enormous geometric building blocks and rebuild it in any way they like. The individual building blocks are soft and light allowing you to work with them easily, and the exuberant colours printed on their surfaces invite you to have fun with them. From 20 to 23 September, 100 Per Cent Design takes place. This is the biggest fair for design and architecture in Britain receiving up to 27,000 visitors annually. On each day of the festival, the Global Design Forum offers a programme of presentations on a specific topic of design.
Numerous events can be found around the city using the local conditions as a backdrop for a wide range of projects. The exhibition “Objects of Refinement: Custom-designed Elements in Modernist Interiors and Architecture” in the Brompton Design District displays an installation of images by Adam Štěch who has spent years working on details in design and architecture. Adam Štěch is a co-founder of the artists’ collective Okolo, and has taken numerous trips all around the world to observe how products and architectural details interact with their environment. In considering these, certain characteristics of the objects come to the fore, marked by the influence of famous examples or by a specific Zeitgeist, thus forming a contemporary witness of a unique kind.
The setting devised by Jan Kloss and Matěj Činčera places the images back in an architectural space and forms a link with it.
