Pictoplasma Conference & Festival
10 – 14 May 2017
The Babylon cinema in Berlin-Mitte is a local venue for film screenings, live concerts, theatre, workshops and festivals. In May 2017 it is also the venue for the 13th Pictoplasma.
The Festival for Contemporary Character Design and Art is holding a conference, film screenings, artist talks, lectures, presentations and exhibitions from 10 to 14 May 2017. While international artists and producers meet at the conference to discuss future strategies for figurative representation, the festival will focus on the latest trends in character design and art. More than 18 influential, international speakers from the fields of graphic and game design and animation are expected to attend. Among them are Georgina Melone and James Yuen, the designers for the toy manufacturer Hasbro, the Berlin-based artist and illustrator DXTR and the animation designer Jack Sachs. On Sunday, 14 May 2017, a series of exhibitions will be held during the festive finnisage in Berlin-Mitte, to round off the festival. A detailed programme overview is available online on the website.
In addition, the Pictoplasma Academy in Berlin, which is also represented in Mexico City, is organising short workshops on 8 and 9 May 2017 as a prelude to the festival. Designers and illustrators are invited to hone their skills in “Character Story Development” and “Sculpting and Resin Toy Molding”. The two-day events will be led by Rilla Alexander and Nathan Jurevicius as well as Matt Jones from Lunartik. The workshops are not included in the festival ticket.
The regular ticket price is 290 euros and includes access to the Pictoplasma Conference including the festival, after-party and all the events taking place as part of it. Groups of ten and students can receive a special discount on request. Tickets can be ordered online.
