Salon Alpin. Surfing or Sauna
Weissraum, Designforum Tirol, Innsbruck
20 March 2018
Salon Alpin founded by Simon Griesser and Philipp Comarella in 2011 is in a category of its own, lying somewhere between art, illustration, film, and music. On 20 March 2018, in the Weissraum at the Designforum Tirol in Innsbruck, Griesser and Comarella will talk about their work and also about where they find their inspiration and take their rest – namely while surfing and in the sauna.
After completing their respective studies at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Griesser and Comarella both initially worked in various agencies and on independent projects as motion designers, game designers, illustrators, and directors. Since 2011 they have been making animations, short films, and game designs – operating from Vienna and Lisbon. Their work is characterised by a unique visual language, attention to detail, and a range of different techniques through which each project creates a world of its own with its own story. Nonetheless, they are tied neither to digital nor analogue techniques, but instead consistently develop new concepts out of the content. In terms of aesthetics, their work is therefore more likely to move beyond traditional advertising, as evident in the projects Winter Tale for Mont Blanc or Inferno for the weekly paper Falter. In addition to working on these projects, both directors also work under contract with Passion Pictures, where they design and direct video games and film documentation. The lecture in the Weissraum starts at 7 pm and is free of charge.
As a centre of excellence and mediation in design, located in the Tirol, the Weissraum is dedicated to contemporary topics in the fields of visual communication and design. The programme includes lectures, exhibitions, training offers, discussions, and publications, with the objective of promoting the (international) discourse between design, business, and the general public.
