Singapore Design Week 2018
5 – 18 March 2018
In 2018 the Singapore Design Week is in its fifth year. A range of events held throughout the city offers companies, students, designers, and the interested public the opportunity to learn all about Singapore’s local and international design creations.
The design week is hosted by the Design Singapore Council, which seeks to foster collaboration between designers, businesses, and the public sector and presents Singapore as an attractive global design location.
The design week offers a range of events at various locations throughout the city, some events are free; others require registration or payment for admission. Highlights include the International Furniture Fair Singapore, featuring the Asian design and furniture industry from 8 to 11 March 2018, and the Singapore Urban Design Festival 2018, which is being held for the first time. As part of the urban design festival, for five days, between 14 and 18 March, the Singapore-based creative studio Lopelab will transform the city’s Tanjong Pagar District into an urban think tank through a series of project initiatives.
The design week will also feature the Singapore Good Design Mark 2018 – a collaboration with Japan’s Good Design Award – to help the city-state become a “smart nation”. In addition to conferences, trade shows, competitions, and networking events, the design week visitors will also have the opportunity to attend workshops, such as the one from the University of Canberra and Access Health International’s “The Future of Work: Design for an Aging Workforce “ on 10 March.
The Italian ambassador to Singapore will make his residence open to the public at the beginning of the design week on 5 and 6 March on the occasion of the Italian Design Day 2018. The rooms have been specially furnished for this event and present a selection of Italian products. Participation in this event is free of charge provided you register in advance.
