Bauhaus Museum, Dessau
– 9 October 2017
The competition “Spielelement” run by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is open until 9 October. It involves designing a large piece of furniture for the museum’s foyer to make for a pleasant visit for different groups of visitors and to invite them to play with it freely.
As part of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Bauhaus, the new Bauhaus Museum Dessau will be completed in 2019. With a dynamic exhibition concept, the “Museum in Bewegung” (Museum in Movement) will house a legacy of more than 40,000 objects from the Bauhaus, as well as creating a dialogue with the city of Dessau on topics currently relevant to it. The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is now holding a competition for the design of the foyer. It involves the design of a space offering visitors different possibilities to linger and encouraging playful interactions with the objects and people they encounter there. The design is intended to build on the design traditions of the Bauhaus: combining craftsmanship, unusual use of materials and the latest industrial technologies. The competition deadline is 9 October 2017. A jury will announce the three winners on 20 October. Recent graduates with a degree in design, interior design, architecture or any other creative focus are eligible to apply. The winner will not receive any prize money as such, but will get financial support of up to 3,000 euros for the construction of a prototype.
