Wei sraum Designforum.
Weisraum Designforum Tyrol, Innsbruck
“Wei sraum” is one of four Austrian design forums that aims to be a platform for designers, industry and policy-makers to research and teach contemporary design themes. They offer presentations and workshops, organise exhibitions, manage projects and competitions and provide their spaces to others.
The primary concern is that no one is yet commissioning current and new topics in design. This appears to be logical as design often means researching and developing new thoughts. Accordingly, the “Wei sraum” association has set itself the goal of supporting these projects and ideas and promoting new topics. The association is managed through public funding, sponsors, company partners and members.
“Wei sraum” is offering various events during November. The “Design Matters” exhibition is on until the end of the month. Using various different projects, this exhibition illuminates the social, structural and process-oriented aspects of design. Projects on show include Goodgoods by Sofia Podreka and Katrin Radanitsch, the public designconsulting by Jesko Fezer and Social Furniture by Eoos.
On 16 November 2017, a presentation will be given by the graphic designer, Andreas Koop, on the visual language of right-wing movements. In 2008, he published a book on this theme, which is now in its third edition.
An event calling itself “Nudelsuppe mit Würstel” [noodle soup with sausage] invites everyone to an informal discussion about inclusive design on 17 November. On 22 November, there will be a lecture entitled “Poetry is the new black – Die Renaissance des Greifbaren” by Joachim Sauter who works in the area of room design involving the disciplines of art, technology and design. From 24 to 26 November, there will be a workshop on generative design within graphic design. Richard Schwarz will give an introduction to processing as a design tool and present generative design in which data sets and parameters are seen as the basis for shaping information.
The final event of the month will take place on 30 November. This is a meeting of the initiative Web and Speck, which was founded in 2015 as a networking platform for developers and designers which had been lacking in the Tyrol.
