NRW Forum, Düsseldorf

19 July – 10 November 2019

The exhibition “Whiteout” transports the visitor into a white cube in its most extreme form: an unlimited white space, and confronts them with three pieces of contemporary performance art.

The collective New Scenario, founded by the artists Paul Barsch and Tilman Hornig, is known for its online exhibitions with international artists. For the virtual extension of the NRW Forum they developed the exhibition “Whiteout” in collaboration with performance artists Maria Hassabi, Christian Falsnaesand Va-Bene Elikem Fiatsi. Video recordings of the performances have been embedded in a white 3D environment, which the visitor enters using VR glasses. The vast emptiness of the space creates a counterpoint to the intimate experience of the performance. The exhibition focuses on the question of whether the physical-spatial experience inherent in all performance art can be intensified in virtual space.

In order to avoid waiting times on site, the organisers recommend booking one of the four VR glasses. If you would like to visit the exhibition without making an appointment, you can do so, but you should be prepared for potentially long waiting times.
